Grandma Taught Me

Happy Mother's Day!
Song Title: Grandma Taught Me
Written & Performed by: Katie Wynn, May 2021
Bless the Women Who
Bless the women who
raise and shape us
encourage us
when nothing makes sense
believe in us
when we make mistakes
shower us with affection
when we don't think we need it
hold us close
when life gets too heavy
they taught us no one should suffer alone.
Bless the women who
make breakfast, lunch, and dinner
every. single. day.
(without complaint)
talk on the phone with us for hours
just because
bundle up at every chilly soccer game,
cheering us on from the sidelines
support our wild dreams
from seven hundred miles away
they taught us no one should celebrate alone.
Bless the women who
unapologetically
live out their convictions
exude
wisdom and grace
cherish
sacred moments
love
without expecting anything in return
for theirs is the Kingdom of God.

Grandma
Taught me
Lyrics
Grandma taught me how to be a lady
How to make it in this world alive
How to be independent
How to help the misfits
How to cook and firmly speak my mind
Some say Grandma's just a little
old-fashioned
'Cause she cranks her
Southern Gospel records loud
But experience will speak for her
And I'll be here right next to her
‘ Til the day the good Lord
calls her to the clouds
Grandma taught me how to
mind my manners
How to take revenge on boys who cheat
How to be real honest
How to pen good sonnets
How to tan just right in summer heat
Some say Grandma's just a little outdated
'Cause she likes to wear a skirt
down past her knees
But experience will speak for her
And I'll be here right next to her
‘Til the day her body dies
and her soul leaves
Ooh, she's been here for me
All along, all along
So I will be here for her
‘Til she is gone
Grandma taught me how to be a rebel
How to stand out eas'ly from the crowd
How to wear red lipstick
How to fake bein' sick
How to make a grandma oh so proud
Some say Grandma's just a little antiquated
'Cause she talks about
the march with Dr. King
But experience will speak for her
And I'll be here right next to her
‘Til the day she and the Godhead finally meet
Experience will speak for her
And I'll be here right next to her
‘Til she and the Godhead
Finally meet
Grandma Taught Me
